Summary and Challenges
  • Problems encountered : Potential deterioration or metal fatigue of FVMS mounting bracket cannot be easily identified through visual inspection.
  • Potential falling risk of part of modules or components of FVMS if the mounting bracket cannot be maintained properly.
  • Catastrophic consequences to the road users.
Expected Outcome
  • Sensors (e.g. Optical fibre-based sensors) installed behind the FVMS for collecting data through measuring lateral vibration and mechanical strain to understand the typical structural behavior of FVMS.
  • Collect data from sensors, process/analyze the collected data and transmit the data to system backend for data storage. AI model could also be developed when sufficient data are collected.
  • Store processed data and provide system user interface for users with reporting and data visualization for monitoring and facilitate maintenance.
  • A prototype model build up for demonstration.
