Summary and Challenges
  • To meet the increasing variety of government vehicle parts and demands of maintenance services, this project aims to develop a platform for EMSD users to search for vehicle parts from the inventory record by taking a photo and automatically generate an email to potential suppliers to collect product proposals, including technical specifications, price proposal and delivery timelines.
  • This will result in effective identification of parts, expansion of the supply chain, shortening of the procurement process and reduction the redundant stock. In addition, the users can take photos of vehicle parts and input relevant information using mobile devices to obtain the part’s name, stock level and relevant part’s information through image recognition technology.
Expected Outcome
  • An online platform and mobile application (iOS) that can accurately identify the vehicle parts using image recognition technology (even if the parts have been already installed on the vehicle) to perform searching and instantly return the parts information
  • Automatically recognise the part’s features, barcodes and characters marked on the parts to populate the system database
  • Utilise the online resources to improve the accuracy of parts recognition and supplement the additional product information for user reference
  • Provide a workstation with multi-angle camera(s) to capture standardised photos of vehicle parts, in term of size and angle, for creating a high-quality image library for AI model training and validation
  • Automatically generate email and SMS templates with part numbers, specifications and required quantities to potential contractors, while supporting users to revise the content for the template
  • Ensure the system complies with relevant security guidelines and standards
  • Design APIs to retrieve data from multiple databases, including internal systems (such as procurement, maintenance and asset management) and external systems to obtain part’s information, such as manufacturer codes, EAN/IAN codes, universal codes, models, part numbers, etc.
