Summary and Challenges
The HKSAR Government has promulgated Construction 2.0 to enhance the industry’s sustainability through innovation. Multi-trade Integrated Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MiMEP) is encouraged to uplift on-site productivity and to enhance performance of work quality, safety and environmental sustainability. However, many projects are not ready for this change.
The objective is to develop a BIM Add-in installation package with the following features:
Automatically recognize architectural layouts and create BIM model;
AI-powered generative AHU/PAU Room layout design;
Automate the checking of delivery routes and optimize sizes of the AHU/PAU MiMEP module.
Technical Requirement:
Modular architecture of programming for future development;
User-friendly add-in installation package, include but not limited to the following:
Three-part add-in installation package allows users to start from any parts (Part 1, 2, or 3) to support flexible use at different project stages;
A standalone program without internet connection;
Generate report and drawing in pdf format.
Support customization and plugin development using common programming languages such as .NET (C#) and Python for AutoCAD and Revit;
Software applications must be IFC compliant to allow BIM model interoperability;
Employ JSON data format to seamless data transfer between platforms.
Expected Outcome
A customized add-in installation package consists of 3 Parts which can be used separately with following features:
Part 1:
Checking the layers of architectural layout to comply Government Standards and Guideline;
Convert 2D CAD drawings (AutoCAD) to 3D openBIM Models (For architectural layout).
Part 2:
Automatically detect the AHU/PAU Room location and measure the room dimensions of it and its door;
Allow the user to choose different flow rate sizes of AHU/PAU for New Project and Replacement Project. For New Project : Based on the design air flow rate, it can check if the size of AHU room can accommodate the integrated AHU. For Replacement Project : Based on the existing AHU room dimension, check if the integrated AHU can be put in the existing plant room layout or upgraded to a larger AHU size if requested by users. Note that the AHU plant room size cannot be changed;
List out all possible options (i.e. the layout with equipment, duct size, pipe size) for the AHU Plant Room for user selection;
Automatically put the selected options to the AHU Plant Room on the 3D model after user selection.
Part 3:
Optimization of Integrated AHU/PAU Modules to list out all the combinations of the modules for delivery;
Draw the line of delivery route by user, so that the program can consider the relevant lift car door, door, width of the corridor, turning radius in optimization of the module.
Generate Report and Tender Drawing for Part 2 and Part 3.
Shortening the time of Integrated AHU/PAU selection and optimize the AHU/PAUmodule size of delivery for both new project and existing project.
