Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • During the construction period of the Mui Wo improvement works, unauthorized bicycle parking at the temporary bicycle parking area has become a significant concern, resulting in numerous public complaints. To improve the management and maintenance of facilities in this area after commissioning, a Bicycle Parking Monitoring System is proposed for Mui Wo, utilizing AI-based image recognition technology. The project will commence as a proof of concept (PoC) prior to full-scale implementation.
  • Project Challenges: The system will provide real-time bicycle parking status, including occupancy and vacancy data, detection of unauthorized parking, identification of long-term unused bicycles, and analysis of peak occupancy times. It will also highlight zones with consistently low utilization.
Expected Outcome
  1. Variations in camera angle, lighting conditions, image quality, occlusion, and privacy concerns must be addressed.
  2. Installation works should be non-intrusive and subject to available locations; power supply and data connectivity must be assessed in advance.
  3. An AI-assisted system for analyzing the utilization of bicycle parking areas, with data integration into existing operational management platforms.
  4. Successful video capture of the entire bicycle parking areas, accompanied by corresponding AI analytical outputs.
  5. Trained AI models capable of accurately assessing bicycle parking utilization, with a target accuracy of 90% or above.
  6. Provision and installation of all required hardware, including cameras, sensors, AI processing servers, data storage systems, etc.
Expected Trial Duration 9-month
