Summary and Challenges
  • We aim to develop a public-facing online city-scale interactive website to show the statutory compliance data of buildings in HK by incorporate the annual HK Energy End-use Data complied by EMSD. Apart from the energy data and the “map” require to update in regular interval automatically, the map shall have flexibility of adding new buildings even the base map does not have such geo info.
  • Besides, a city-scale buildings AI energy model shall be established for energy analysis and prediction under various scenarios and engineering assumptions. The developed AI engine will also interface with existing EMSD system / database for data transfer and energy analysis.
  • Project Challenges:
    1. Light, smooth and informative public-facing online interactive website is required despite large nos. of building;
    2. Building energy simulation requires detailed information such as envelope thermal properties, etc.; &
    3. A computationally efficient shading modeling method shall be developed.
Expected Outcome
  1. Light, smooth, informative public-facing online interactive website is required while ensure data accuracy.
  2. The map for the interactive website shall have flexibility of adding new buildings even the base map does not have such geo info.
  3. Can assist Buildings Energy Efficiency Ordinance enforcement (e.g. identify buildings which required Energy Audit).
  4. Enable flexibility of changing the base map services provider.
  5. Trained city-scale buildings AI energy model(s) that can estimate the % of uplift for energy saving based on prediction under various scenarios and engineering assumptions and the factors based on existing model.
  6. Trained city-scale buildings AI energy model(s) shall be established for energy analysis and prediction under various scenarios and engineering assumptions. Such as covering the potential of using renewable energy system and energy use of residential buildings by uplifting the building energy labels for appliances.
  7. The AI energy model established for energy analysis and prediction shall follow the international standards such as ASHRAE standard 209 for energy modeling.
  8. The AI engine shall be able to interface with existing EMSD system / database for data transfer and energy analysis.
