Development of High-Resilience Platform Gap Filler

I&T Wish Development of High-Resilience Platform Gap Filler
(REF: W-0604)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges

The aim is to further enhance passenger safety by designing a high-resilience platform gap filler that integrates advanced homogeneous materials, providing sufficient vertical stiffness to support passenger and luggage loads while maintaining low lateral stiffness and low resistance, ensuring that if the filler contacts the train, it will not affect the train's operation and passenger safety The proposed gap filler should not interfere with train door operations or departures, ensuring smooth performance on both straight and curved platforms.

The materials used for the gap filler shall be safe and durable to maintain its normal operation and performance against sunlight, heat, humidity, rain, flames, oil and potential chemical used in various rail environment.

Fail-safe design/ installation shall be adopted to prevent broken components falling into rolling stock and Kinematic Envelope infringement.

Expected Outcome
  • To develop a high-resilience platform gap filler.
  • A full-scale prototypes will be developed for static, dynamic, environmental testing to validate the design.
  • The solution shall meet relevant safety standards, ensuring its suitability for wider adoption in rail networks.
Expected Trial Duration 18-month
