Sewage Pipe Leakage Detection

I&T Wish Sewage Pipe Leakage Detection
(REF: W-0609)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
  • Many sewage rising mains for upstream pumping stations of cavern sewage treatment works have been in service for decades and are increasingly susceptible to material deterioration, corrosion, joint failure, and structural defects, all of which elevate the risk of leakage.
  • As these pipelines are buried underground, direct access is inherently limited, and excavation for inspection or repair is both disruptive and costly.
  • Conventional inspection approaches are generally conducted on a periodic rather than continuous basis, making early detection of defects and leakage particularly challenging.
  • In view of the above, we propose to adopt innovative technologies to enable early detection and localisation of leakage in sewage pipelines. The objective is to reduce environmental and public health risks, minimise infiltration and exfiltration, and optimise long term maintenance planning.
Expected Outcome
  • Sewage pipe leakage detection is expected to enable early identification and localisation of defects, thereby reducing unnecessary excavation and repair time.
  • It will improve the reliability and integrity of the underground sewerage network. Ultimately, this will enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the long-term sustainability of the sewerage infrastructure.
Expected Trial Duration 6-month
