EMSD wins Prize of Republic and Canton of Geneva for first time at invention exhibition

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) has reached new heights at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva by winning a total of 12 awards for 10 invention projects, including the Prize of the Republic and Canton of Geneva awarded by the Government of the Canton of Geneva. This prize represents honour and recognition at government level for the winning project. This is the first time that departments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government have received this prize. Other awards received by the EMSD include two gold medals with the congratulations of jury, four gold medals, one silver medal, three bronze medals and one prize of the Best International Invention & Innovation.

Some of the award-winning projects showcased at the Exhibition are the successful cases matched through the E&M InnoPortal (inno.emsd.gov.hk). The InnoPortal has been facilitating the matching of technological needs from the Government with I&T solutions from the I&T sector to promote wider application and commercialisation of innovative E&M technologies since 2018. The effectiveness of the InnoPortal was proved by the outstanding results achieved by the EMSD at the Exhibition.

Prize of the Republic and Canton of Geneva + Gold Medal

Two-phase Immersion Cooling System for High Performance Computer Workstation
(In collaboration with CAD by EMSD)

Two-phase immersion cooling by CAD, EMSD and NAMI demonstrates efficient heat removal for CAD's high performance ATC Tower Simulator under normal and stress operation with potential of energy saving and extended life versus traditional air cooling.

Gold Medals with the Congratulations of Jury

Integration of AI and Optical Fiber Technology for District Cooling/ Heating System Plants

Application of AI and optical fiber technology to analyze the complex operations of district cooling plant serving multiple buildings for enhancing overall plant efficiency. Generic design of AI model makes it also applicable to district heat plant.

Tracking Solution for Outdoor Activity Safety (In collaboration with CAD by EMSD)

Providing an innovative approach to manage various outdoor activities, such as paragliding, water sports and hiking, using electronic devices embedded with multiple IoT technologies for enhancing user safety.

Gold Medals

System of Wireless Connection to Field Equipment for Control and Monitoring

New approach is adopted for wireless connection between new central equipment and new field equipment for control and monitoring instead of traditional fixed connection approach, in view of site constraint of blockage for cable ducting.

RopeVision: Cost Effective Solution to Detect Lift Rope Defects Using AI

Our product revolutionizes wire rope inspection by addressing labor-intensive processes and safety hazards. By utilizing advanced image recognition and AI, it detects defects like rust and broken wires, presenting data graphically.

Hauling Rope AI Condition Monitoring System

Implement a real-time monitoring system using magnetic detection and image processing to analyze the health of hauling ropes. Utilize AI algorithms to assess abnormalities and perform trend analysis for predictive maintenance planning.

Silver Medal + The Best International Invention & Innovation (awarded by the National Research Council of Thailand)

SmartEye: Remote Site Supervision System-cum-integrated Site Management Platform
(DEVB's project, supported by EMSD)

SmartEye is a real-time remote surveillance system using 4D LiDAR, edge computing, bonded-5G, GenAI and LLM for high-risk construction projects, ensuring safety and quality.

Bronze Medals

SmartAir - AI-controlled Ventilation System

The solution leverages AI to enhance indoor air quality and optimize energy efficiency of the ventilation system.

AI Visual Intelligence-enabled Glasses for Drone Operations
(In collaboration with HKPF by EMSD)

The AI glasses system allows drone pilots to monitor flight details and view the real-time visuals of their surroundings while receiving critical AI computational results directly on the glasses for various applications.

Territory-wide IoT Network for Resilience, Sustainability and Liveability in Smart City
