Overview

Pedestrian subways at low-lying area has a higher risk of flooding during heavy rainstorm and extreme weather conditions. A smart and reliable flooding detection and warning system equipped with remote monitoring feature is essential to ensure the public safety and avoid the public from exposing to any unnecessary flooding risk.

Problem Addressed

Pedestrian subways are scattered across the territory, which is time consuming, ineffective and labour intensive to provide daily patrol, especially during extreme weather conditions. Flood detection and warning system equipped with remote monitoring feature at pedestrian subway is crucial for real-time monitoring and alert the pedestrian from entering it by mistake whenever there is flooding risk existed.

Innovation

When the water level in the pedestrian subway exceeds the preset water level of the flooding detection and warning system, Short Message Service (SMS) would be sent to dedicated mobile numbers while the warning sign board installed outside the pedestrian subway will display a warning message, triggering the alarm to alert pedestrians not to enter the subway at risk of flooding. The flood warning system is based on existing subway flood monitoring system, low capital cost and running cost can be achieved. The design of flood warning system is simple and scalable. The warning sign is driven by electric motor and backup with battery. This simple design allow reliable and robust performance to work during extreme weather condition.

By using the ultrasonic water level sensor and CCTV, the remote monitoring system can provide real-time information of the pedestrian subway for monitoring and deploying necessary maintenance staff to attend the site.
