Development of LoRaWAN Gateway-to-Gateway Communication for Extension of LoRa Coverage (REF: W-0321)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
LoRaWAN network is for smart utilities, health and hygiene monitoring. The LoRaWAN Gateways (EMSD GW) are deployed to divert and process data from and to IoT sensors connected. The existing LoRaWAN protocol lack the support for communication between gateways which limits the deployment to our applications where mobile network services were not available. LoRaWAN is known to cover 5-10 KM radius from the Gateway. Utilising this feature, we aim to seek for a solution to connect gateway without mobile network connection our local server. The eventual solution may or may not be using the existing LoRaWAN protocol. However, it must be deployed to and support a number of our existing gateway models. Innovative solutions and ideas are welcome.
Expected Outcome
Use of LoRaWAN protocol or other proprietary protocol to allow long distance wireless communication between gateways
The design of proprietary gateways should work without the use of mobile network
To carried out on-site trial and compile a project report
Expected Trial Duration
6 months
