Summary and Challenges
Outdoor lamp poles are exposed to sunlight and rainwater which would aggravate the corrosion development. Regular inspection is hence essential to ensure they are in good condition and safe to use.
Some lamp poles at playground were covered by protective padding which could not be easily removed. Therefore it becomes difficult to spot irregularities from the outside of the pole. Any inspection on those pole condition will require removal of the glued padding while the padding would likely be damaged afterwards.
This project is looking for smart detection technology such as optical image recognition, video / sound analytic, ultrasonic/ electromagnetic pulse, etc for easier and faster inspection on lamp poles under different conditions.
Expected Outcome
The new technology is expected to facilitate the condition checking workflow by achieving reduction in time and effort required for each inspection as well as minimizing the impact and alteration to the existing lamp pole provision.
