Summary and Challenges
Around 30,000 water dripping from air-conditioner cases were received and identified annually through either the complaint channel or FEHD's proactive inspections. In pursuance of efficient investigation and proper handling of such cases, FEHD staff would use various devices (digital cameras, high definition telescopes, retractable and adjustable video borescope inspection cameras with LED lamps) to facilitate identifying the sources of water dripping from air-conditioners.
Since the course of investigation in identifying the sources of water dripping from air-conditioners is difficult and complicated particularly when
(i) it is not easy in ascertaining the source of water dripping in dim light environment, especially at night time usually
(ii) there may be multiple sources of water dripping because air-conditioners are installed vertically at the same location on each floor of high-rise multi-storey buildings; and
(iii) there is a certain distance between the sources of water dripping and the point of observation, especially for the high-rise multi-storey buildings
FEHD is going to explore and utilize innovations and new technologies for enhancing the investigation efficiency against water dripping from air-conditioners.
Expected Outcome
Without prejudice to prevailing laws and the rights of privacy, the innovation and new technology including developed tool(s) shall be portable, easy-to-use, durable, accurate, and cost-effective to facilitate the case investigation so as to identify the sources of water dripping from air-conditioners or promote its potentials despite the low-light conditions in the environment, the distances between sources and the observer and the presence of multiple sources.
