Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
Common electrical incidents generally related to household electrical products were resulted from electric arc, overload, leakage current or etc.. To minimize the occurrence of electrical incidents and enhancing the electricity safety, this project aimed to leverage the AI technology to develop an innovative power extension unit with arc fault detection function, earth fault detection function, overload detection function and household electrical products condition monitoring function. By employing the microcontroller units (MCUs) with built-in WiFi connectivity, and embedded AI technology, it is possible to develop effective and scalable power extension unit.
Expected Outcome
The proposed power extension unit is expected to minimize electrical incidents and provide the following key benefits:
Automatic circuit shutdown upon detection of an arc fault event, reducing the risk of fire and property damage.
Automatic circuit shutdown upon detection of an earth fault event, reducing the risk of fire and property damage.
Automatic circuit shutdown upon detection of an overload event, reducing the risk of fire and property damage.
Reduced product hardware costs by leveraging the power extension unit with integrated AI.
Increased safety of electrical products with condition monitoring function.
Seamless integration among existing fixed electrical installation and electrical products.
Scalability and flexibility to support a wide range of electrical systems and applications, including adaptors and socket outlets expansion.
Remote monitoring, data analytics, and predictive maintenance capabilities through the server-based platform.
Potential for advanced features like mobile app integration and intelligent alert notifications.
Secured intellectual property through a patent filing, ensuring the long-term commercial success of the system.
Recognition and validation of the system's innovative design and technical merit through a design award competition.
Dissemination of the project's contributions to the trade through a technical article published at a conference or journal.
