AI-based Lift Traffic Monitoring and Analysis Platform for Optimized Operation Strategy

I&T Solution AI-based Lift Traffic Monitoring and Analysis Platform for Optimized Operation Strategy
(REF: S-0886)
Trial Project
Solution Feature
  • High-precision radar-based sensors will be installed on ceiling of EMSD HQ each floor’s lift lobbies for vertical counting on passengers, which won’t be affected by people stopping, temperature variation or environment brightness change.
  • Wireless connectivity module based on NB-IoT will serve for connection to cloud server, where the collected people counting and queue waiting data will be filtered and clustered before dropping into Big Data analytics models and connecting with RDCC platform for display.
  • Data analytics methodologies will be adopted and Machine Learning models will be built to assess divergent lift demand on each floor, average queue period and peak time, thus evaluating the performance of current lift dispatching and suggesting for optimum allocation rules to help ease the crowd of waiting people.
  • Through using business intelligence software and advanced user interface design tools, the real-time lift traffic, data analytics outputs and suggested lift operation settings can be visualized with 3D animation through customized web portal for comparison, notification and further strategy implementation.
  • Interfacing with third-party systems and mobile devices will be enabled in the platform to inform lift maintenance contractors and building operators about system malfunction or overwhelming lift demand situation through on-time notification and incident report, this can also help verify that lift service providers meet their service commitments.
Trial Application and Expected Outcome
  • Overhead installation of radar-based sensors will replace existing lights at each floor’s lift lobby for people counting. The installation will be in a non-intrusive method without impact on normal lift operation and the counting result will be accurate and reliable despite the environment change.
  • The platform will make it possible to obtain real-time lift traffic statistics and perform a predictive analysis of passenger flows, necessary measures and lift dispatching adjustment will be executed based on anticipated demand to guarantee the utmost use of lift resource and balanced allocation.
  • The platform will offer an overarching picture on the lift operation intelligence with the access to maintenance information, asset healthiness and historical operation records, etc. in addition to real-time sensor counting statistics.
  • After carrying out optimized lift dispatching rules setting, the post-implementation data collected back will be visualized on display portal to make comparison among terminal floors and evaluate the performance of improved strategy.
  • To maintain the most efficient operation environment of lifts in EMSD HQ, an on-going commissioning process will be conducted which starts with continuously data collection on parameters including people counting and queue waiting period. The performance evaluation and gap with expectation will then be analysed for further improvements.
