Application of Robots for Body Transportation in Mortuary Building (REF: W-0554)
Matched I&T Solution
Trial Project
Summary and Challenges
This project aims to develop an automatic body transport system to transfer body to specific locations on multiple floors in the mortuary building using robots, including cold rooms, identification rooms, body receipt/ dispatch areas and autopsy rooms, to improve the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) level in the workplace.
Forecast challenges include the following:
There are some stationary and moving obstacles such as trolleys and walking humans along the corridors or in the lift lobbies
Misleveling between lift cab and floor might cause malfunctions of the robot
Modification of the existing body trays and trolleys might be required
Expected Outcome
A prototype automatic body transport system shall be designed, developed, constructed, tested and commissioned with the following features:
Detection of stationary and moving obstacles promptly such as walking humans in indoor area to avoid the danger of collision
Communication with the lift control system for travelling to different floors
In the body receipt area, the robot should weigh body and body tray together on a designated scale, then transport body and body tray to the trolley or the robot in the cold room
The robot should be able to lift and unload the body tray to working platform or cold room robot at appropriate height level
Expected Trial Duration
2-month
